Bumper bangs, Victory rolls and Pompadours… the world of vintage hair has a lot of specific terms.
We found ourselves wondering why victory rolls are called victory rolls, so we decided to do a little sleuthing.
Turns out, there are a few possible ways they earned their name:
We like the idea of them being named after the barrel rolls that the WWII pilots would do, to celebrate victory.
But, there are the other war era “victory” things, like victory gardening.
Victory rolls might not so much be named after a thing, as an actual period of time… or a movement.
But it’s interesting that no resource we’ve seen yet, definitively names a reason for the name.
